March 7, 2021, this Sunday Evening, the 26th Critics’ Choice Awards took place. The nomination for these films was already announced back on February 8th. Critics Choice Awards official ceremony was presented last weekend. The ceremony was captured and aired on The CW. Taye Diggs hosted the ceremony for the third year in a row.
An Evening Full Of Stars But Online
Yet again, with the terror of corona and the ongoing pandemic, The Critics Choice Award Ceremony 2021 was held online. Nominated actors, actresses, directors, and other stars logged in the ceremony. With all the nominees dressed up but confined to their homes, Taye Diggs, along with the crew, shot in Los Angles. The nominations, as mentioned was announced one entire month prior to the ceremony held. With 12 and 10 nominations, Mank and Minari gained the most nominations. Ozark and The Crown each earned six nominations in the television category.
Top Winners Of The Virtual Ceremony
The evening began with the host, Taye Diggs, handing over to Angela Basset and Courtney B. Vance, who announced the night’s first winner.
Best Supporting Performance in a Picture Award Category
Daniel Kaluuya for Judas and the Black Messiah as Fred Hampton and Maria Bakalova in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm as Tutar Sagdiyev. Both the awardees accepted gratefully and made an acceptance speech while sitting at home.
Best Young Actor/Actress
The cutest highlight of the ceremony was captured when Alan Kim was awarded for his first-ever performance in the film Minari as David Yi. Everyone was awestruck by Alan’s short acceptance speech.
Best Comedy Movie
Palm Springs took the next award home for the Best Comedy Movie Category.
Best Director Award Category
Chloe Zhao for her direction in the movie Nomadland. Zhao is the first Chinese woman to receive an Academy Award for either directing or writing.
Best Editing
With an astonishing tie, Alan Baumgarten for the Trail Of Chicago 7 and Mikkel E. G. Nielsen for his stunning editing work for the film Sound Of Metal.
Best Song

Best Series – Drama Genre
The Golden Globe Winner, The Crown, yet again won the Best Series Critics Choice. The Crown won most of the night, with the other categories being Best Actor, and Actress in a Drama Series went to Josh O’ Conor and Emma Corrin, respectively. Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series was won by The Crown’s actress Gillian Anderson.
Best Series- Comedy Genre
Winning all three nominations, Ted Lasso won The Best Comedy Series. Apart from that, brought in the home for the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Hannah Waddingham as well as for the Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Jason Sudeikis. Best Actor
Late Chadwick Boseman for his last film performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom asLevee Green. His wife, Simone Ledward Boseman received his award. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was also earned the Best Hair and Makeup and Best Costume Design Award.
Best Actress
Carey Mulligan for her outstanding performance in Promising Young Woman as Cassandra “Cassie” Thomas. The Best Original Screenplay category was also won by Emerald Fennell for the film Promising Young Woman.
The Best Picture Award Category
The Critics Choice Award for the Best Picture was won by Nomadland. In the film categories, “Nomadland” led the winners with four awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Chloé Zhao, and Best Cinematography for Joshua James Richards. The ceremony was summed up with The best Picture as the last award for the night.
The #SeeHer Movement
The SeeHer Award honors a woman who exemplifies the SeeHer movement’s ideals of pushing boundaries, defying expectations, and recognizing the importance of realistic portrayals of women in the entertainment industry. Another SeeHer Movement was awarded during the ceremony. John David Washington presented the 2021 SeeHer Award to Zendaya, John’s co-star in “Malcolm & Marie”. Zendaya was the 5th recipient of the SeeHer Award. The first being awarded in 2016 to Viola Davis, Gal Gadot in 2017, Claire Foy-2018, Kristen Bell for the year 2019, and lastly, as disclosed by Zendaya.
